My first action plan week

This week I implemented my first steps of the action plan, for example, for this week to the end of the school year, Wednesday is going to be a one and one teacher student time day, and the students that need more practice of what has being studied in the week are going to have an approximate of 10 to 15 minutes with me to clarify doubts and practice different language skills, this Wednesday I had time to practice with 5 students, and in my opinion it was very successful, for example this week we were practicing present continiuous, several students weren´t able to complete the tasks they were asked for, and after having a one on one T-S they were able to complete the activities, so it was clear that this time was very useful for the students.
Friday was the first learn while playing day and we play¨ Simon Says¨, it was good although I realize that even if it is a game day the lesson plan have to be planed very carefully if not, it could end up being just about playing and not too much about learning, I realize that the children get in playing mood and it is harder to control the group, for next Friday I´m going to look for games with more clearer learning goals.
Overall it was a good week, I´m getting to know the students better, and more important I´m getting more comfortable being a ¨teacher¨, I feel more confident doing the weekly lesson plan and I confront the outcomes with more security.

Needs Analysis

NEEDS ANALYSIS

This activity was really helpful to me because now that I have more time in my SS, I got to know better how the school works and what in my opinion has to be done to improve; because of the way the Montessori method is designed, the students in the same classroom have different ages and language levels, but they follow the same curriculum, and in my specific classroom there is a problem of lack of interest from the students

So I identify as my first purpose to measure students overall understanding of the program, and also to identify students feeling towards the English class to understand their needs. The target population of the study was first of all students, and secondly ¨guides¨ and school administrators. The teachers in the Montessori system are known as ¨guides¨

The needs analysis was conducted by the group guide, the principal of the school and me. The survey methods used was a test to measure students understanding of the course and an interview to measure students’ feelings of the course. At first it wasn´t easy to convince the administrators to let me apply a questionnaire to the students, because of the school method exams and test are not common in the school, there exist other ways of evaluation; once the administrator accepted to do the questionnaires’, the students were very reluctant and it was hard to make them take it seriously, but with the help of the classroom ¨guide¨ the students took the test.

After completing the questionaries’ and interviews we were able to verify that while some students were working according to the course, a lot of them were not in the same level, and were getting behind, we were also able to identify that some students have the need of one on one time with the professor to clarify doubts and students were concerned that they didn´t have enough practice time of what it´s learned in a lesson

CURRICULUM
INSTRUCTION
ORGANIZATION

Strength

Strength
Need
Strength
Need
Student
Students work well with the course design
Make sure that all students are advancing along with the curriculum
Students pleased with the instruction of the course
It will be useful to have more one on one T-S time to clarify doubts
Students understand the organization of the course correctly
Students should have more time to practice
Staff
Teachers do follow the curriculum design
Constant reinsurance of students comprehension
Guides follow the correct way of instruction that most be given according to the school
There should be more instruction capacitation for the teachers that have no experience as guides
The ¨guides¨  are well organized
There should be more instruction to the teachers that are not ¨guides¨ of how the organization of the school most be
Parents/ Community

It might be helpful if parents are more aware of the curriulum
Constant teacher-parents communication

Parents are invited to field trips at least once a month.
All parents should be involved not just a few of them
Facilities/Materials
The school has enough teaching materials to work with
Students have to be more careful with the materials
There are plenty of teaching aids to support instruction
Tecgnology should be more available

There should be more time designed to use technology for learning purposes
